NORTHERN ITALY

The north of Italy is divided into seven regions, Piedmont, Liguria, Valle d’Aosta, Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli-Venezia-Giulia.

These are areas with a rich history influenced by the proximity to the rest of Europe.

Many of Italy’s most famous wines call this home, it is here that we find Amarone, Barolo, Soave, and Pinot Grigio, just to name a few.

CENTRAL ITALY

The central region of Italy is comprised of these seven regions, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marches, Umbria, Latium, Abruzzi, Sardinia.

The central regions of Italy are responsible for what is probably the best known of all Italian red wines, Chianti. Other famous wines are Rosso & Brunello di Montalcino, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Vernaccia San Gimignano and of course, Super Tuscans.

SOUTHERN ITALY

In the south the production centers around red wine, which may rival the wines of the south of France for interest and good value. There are wines of interest in Molise, Campania, Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily & Puglia (Apulia). It is here that there is an abundance of history in winemaking with wines such as Taurasi, Greco di Tufo, Lacryma Christi, Salice Salentino and Primitivo.
